Day Trip to Napa
After we left Santa Barbara, we travelled up to Sonoma County (where I grew up and went to high school) to visit my dad. We had a great time visiting and wandering around beautiful wineries and quaint shops. During our few days there, Alex, Lucia, and I took a little day trip over to Napa.
Our first stop was Dean & Deluca. This is one of my favorite places and I try to stop there anytime I am near one.
I could spend hours wandering the aisles of this store. They carry all sorts of gourmet groceries and have a cafe too.
Checking out the rows and rows of preserves
Setting up our breakfast picnic outside. I had a peanut butter white mocha and an apricot scone, Alex had a coffee and chocolate croissant, and Lucia had some banana bread
She loved it.
She really did!
We ended up buying a few things. A darling apron and travel coffee mug for me, some treats for Valentine's day, some gifts for our family members who watched our cats, and some white barbecue sauce. I've always been curious about white barbecue sauce
After Dean & Deluca we decided to take a detour to Yountville to visit French Laundry and Bouchon. These are Thomas Keller's restaurants in Napa
The French Laundry is such a hidden gem. When we ate here 3 years ago we passed it a few times before we found it. The restaurant is under construction right now but it still looks gorgeous
I often think about our time here and wish I took more photos. I didn't want to disturb the other patrons so I chickend out (probably for the best anyway). Maybe someday I will recreate portions our 24 course meal
On to the Napa Riverfront
The buildings are so pretty. I love wine country style
Outdoor gardens full of white roses and lemons... my dream garden
The Milkie girls
Having a great time
We stopped to have lunch at a restaurant called "The Pear"
I loved the attention to detail in the decor. Especially, these copper salt and pepper shakers
Loved the copper lights too
Lucia liked the instruments on the wall, I loved the topiaries
We started with some blue crab dip
We split a beet salad
And since they are a "Southern-style" bistro, we had to try chicken and waffles. Neither Alex nor I had ever had them. These waffles had bits of bacon in them!
And since we were in Napa, a little sparkling Rosé for me and some house red for Alex... when in Napa!
Lucia really wanted to partake in the celebratory lunch sparkles but we told her she had to wait just a few more years
After lunch we walked around some more
The old opera house
A bare persimmon tree ripe with fruit. A subtle reminder that we don't always need much to really bloom. After our walk, we drove back to my Dad's and had dinner with some cousins. I love Napa and cannot wait to return! Maybe another trip to The French Laundry is in order... I am curious about the new construction :)
