Day Trip to Deception Pass and Penn Cove
A couple of weeks ago, my dad and step-mom came to visit us and meet George for the first time. We had a break in the gloomy weather and enjoyed some beautifully sunny days together. To take full advantage of the sun, we decided to take a day trip up and around Puget Sound to Deception Pass and Penn Cove.
Deception Pass is so named because Captain Vancouver thought it was the long-sought Northwest Passage
The strong conflicting tides can also be deceptive
We drove around Whidbey Island and stopped in the quaint little town of Coupeville for lunch
We had waterfront dining at the Front Street Grill. You can see the view right through the windows!
We shared a few dozen oysters with mignonette. Lucia kept saying, "I NEED more oysters!". I feel you girl.
Grandpa and George
I had the Mussels San Danielle which was prosciutto, carmelized onions, sage, white wine, garlic, and of course, lots of butter. When in Penn Cove!
After lunch we had a sweet treat at Kapaw's Iskreme
Lucia loves her rainbow ice cream
We enjoyed our ice cream with a walk on the Coupeville Wharf
There is a picturesque red building at the end of the wharf
Birds were flying all over and pecking at the mussels in the water
Talk about fresh seafood!
I would not mind a sweet beach house right on the water
Just a small place to enjoy these views every day
To witness lovely moments like this
And linger with my favorite people
Picturesque store fronts
Cherry blossoms everywhere
Even a street named for Alex. We were meant to be there!
We took the Kittitas Ferry back to Mukilteo
We stopped for a late dinner at the Columbia Tower Club
And watched the sun melt into the Olympic Mountains
The view of Mount Rainier and Mercer Island from the restroom
Goodnight Washington, and thanks for a fabulous day
